How to add a private message button to your tweet.

Lately, I’ve had a lot of people asking how to add a private message button to their tweet like in my pinned post. Well, guess what? It’s incredibly easy.

(I know, I know, this isn’t really dev-related but let’s pretend it is)

Step 1.

Head to Gettwitterid.com and find out your ID number.

Step 2.

Copy/Paste this link into your tweet:

https://twitter.com/messages/compose?recipient_id=YOUR_ID_NUMBER

Don’t forget to replace ‘YOUR_ID_NUMBER’ with, well, your ID number.

Step 3.

Send tweet. See? I told you it was easy.

Now if you want to add an autofill text to your private message, that is quite easy too. Simply add this to the end of your link from above:

&text=Hi!%20I%27d%20like%20to%20talk%20about%20a%20freelance%20opportunity!%20

Now when someone clicks your private message button, it will autofill the text, “Hi! I’d like to talk about a freelance opportunity!”

And there you have it, folks. I take full responsibility for these buttons popping up everywhere now.

Feel free to add me on Twitter @elyktrix!
